A match made in heaven: Studio 54/PopArt
Orchid Events hosted a creative themed party, combining both ideas from the renowned Studio 54 and pop-art.
Studio 54 was a world famous nightclub, located in New York. The nightclub functioned from 1977 to 1980, and despite its life being short lived, its fame was like no other. Frequent guests included Andy Warhol, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Karl Lagerfeld, Mick Jagger and Calvin Klein, amongst many others. The iconic Studio 54, provides a wonderful base from which a themed party can exist.
Pop-art, a movement which originated in the United States in the 1950’s, combines perfectly with a Studio 54 theme in order to create a breathtakingly original party. Pop-art is the addition of aspects of popular culture into fine art, creating a whole new style.
The pop-art theme was clear from the get go, with beautifully made up walkabout girls sporting makeup emulating the classic pop-art style. The strong features and polka dots accentuated their faces and gave them almost a cartoon look.
The walls were projected with oil spills, giving a metallic, iridescent feel to the venue. They also took on an aspect of pop-art, as strong geometric shapes were projected, along with oil droplets.
The Polaroid wall gave a vintage feel to the event, as well as providing the guests with a fun activity to play around with at the party. Furthermore, the pictures provided great keep-sakes for our clients to take home from their party.
The invitations, as the event was a 50th birthday party, took a fun play on the Studio 54 logo, once again bringing together the theme.
The whole venue had a very vintage feel, and pop-art pieces were dotted around the room. Comfortable vintage chairs not only provided a great seating option, but also fit in perfectly with the eclectic theme.
